Champika rejects allegations

Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka yesterday ( July 14 ) rejected the allegations leveled against him on the controversial tender to supply Coal for Lakvijaya Power Plant.
Earlier in this week, opposition MP Wasudeva Nanayakkara had alleged the Minister Ranawaka is responsible  for this tender as the then Minister of Power and Energy.
But, Minister Ranawake clarified that the Cabinet paper on this tender had been presented on September 22 in 2015, where he was not the incharge for the subject.
However, on August 13 in 2015 the Minister Ranawake has also written to President Maithripala Sirisena requesting to cancel the tender and to call for fresh bids internationally.  When the tender was challenged in the Supreme Court, the court ordered the cancellation of the tender and call for fresh bids.
